| The ultimate Joomla 1.5-Virtuemart book |
|
Hi, Today I'd like to say a word about the best Joomla 1.5/Virtuemart book I ever came across (OK, that's pretty much the only one I have read on the matter, but it is really great). Before I start, you have to know that it is written in French, so I guess it may be of little interest to most of you. If you have however minimal command of the language, but a maximal interesest in building up an online shop using Joomla 1.5.x and Virtuemart 1.1.x, that's the only book you'll need. It comes from Valérie Isaksen , renown Virtuemart specialist, who authored several payment modules for all major French banks. She is also the French translator of Virtuemart, and has been professionally building e-shops using Joomla+Virtuemart for years. She's been helped by Thierry Tardif, Joomla specialist, from http://www.alpha-design.fr/ . The book has everything you would expect, including a detailed description and step-by-step how-to on using Virtuelart to build a real online shop. All major road-blocks are covered, like setting up categories and products, shipping methods, payment methods, etc In addition, it also guides you through settingup your Joomla, adding articles, even setting up your development environment and then moving your site online when it's ready. Plus a complete documentation on theming Virtuemart, with complete lists of all files involved. But what makes it the ultimate reference for me is that it also will take you through all the "good practices"to make your shop successfull. In other words, the book is not only about how to use a piece of software, but also about making a business plan, a few legal considerations, marketing (and of course SEO:) ) Valérie has setup a dedicated site for the book at http://boutique-virtuemart.com . There you'll find links to buy it from Amazon. Seriously needed if you are considering building an online shop....
